Systemic Change Workshop for the Vincentian Family of Ethiopia

From November 22-24, 2019, the members of the Vincentian Family of Ethiopia and Eritrea took part in a 3-day Systemic Change Workshop which was held at the DC St. Mary Provincial House in Addis Ababa. There were 61 participants coming from 9 different branches: Daughters of Charity, Congregation of the Mission, International Association of Charities (AIC), Vincentian Lay Missionaries, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Vincentian Marian Youth, Brothers of Charity, Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent de Paul and Sisters of Charity of St. St. Jeanne-Antide Thouret. The workshop consisted of various inputs, personal reflection, group work, sharing and reporting facilitated by Fr. Gregorio Bañaga, Jr, CM, Ana Maria Escaño and Sr. Ellen LaCapria, DC. Towards the end of the workshop, a core group was formed by representatives from the different branches that would follow-up on collaboration especially on the issue of homelessness. The coordinator for this core group is Fr. Stephen Monaghan, CM.

All in all, the participants felt that the seminar was very practical and a meaningful occasion for the Vincentian Family to come together for the sharing of common values and mission.

On November 26, 2019, Ana Maria and Sr. Ellen gave a one-day orientation and discussion on Systemic Change to the DC and their lay partners in Mekelle, Tigray, North Ethiopia, where the DC work extensively with children and young people who are living in the streets, providing for their physical and spiritual needs. They also run an eye clinic in partnership with Proyecto Vision (Spain). The CM also joined in this one -day session

Though we were only in Ethiopia for less than a week but it felt like being home… thanks for the wonderful and memorable experience!
